The University of Paris 8 visits Ghana

A delegation from the Paris 8 University visited the University of Ghana (UG) and the University of Cape Coast (UCC) to discover ways to expand on collaboration as well as sharing information that will lead to new projects

A delegation from the Paris 8 University made up of Mrs Severine Bortot, Head of International Relations, and Mr Phillipe Bootz, Professor and Researcher of Digital Literature visited the University of Ghana (UG) and the University of Cape Coast (UCC) late March to discover ways to expand on collaboration as well as sharing information that will lead to new projects.

Facilitated by the France-Ghana Higher Education Cooperation Advisor from Expertise France, a delegation from the Paris 8 University made up of Mrs Severine Bortot, Head of International Relations, and Mr Phillipe Bootz, Lecturer and Researcher of Digital Literature visited the University of Ghana (UG) and the University of Cape Coast (UCC) late March. They met various Heads of departments and university faculty in select fields in the Humanities at both universities.

At the University of Ghana, the delegation was received by the Deans of the Schools of Social Sciences (Prof Charity Akotia), Languages (Prof Nana Amfo) and Performing Arts (Prof Kofi Agyekum). The delegation also met with the Director of the Centre for European Studies, Prof Ransford Gyampo. Rich discussions were made to establish new avenues for student and staff mobility between the two universities as well as to exchange information that could lead to joint academic projects. The team also met with the university’s Provost of the College of Humanities, Prof Samuel Agyei-Mensah and, Assistant Registrar of the International Programmes Office, Mr Daniel Hormeku, who expressed their pleasure and willingness to expand on the existing MOU with Paris 8 University and further deepen academic ties. Meanwhile, Phillipe Bootz led a workshop on Digital Literature as a guest lecturer for the university’s Department of English.

The delegation then visited the iconic coastal campus of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) where they were received by Prof Rosemond Boohene, Director of the Centre for International Education (CIE) and spent the day meeting with the Deans of the Faculties of Arts, Prof Joseph Afful, and Social Sciences, Prof Francis Eric Amuquandoh to discover strategies for future collaboration with UCC.

These meetings are a first step towards the establishment of institutional partnerships with exciting prospects for student exchange, training, and joint research.
