National Day of Remembrance of the Slave Trade, Slavery and their Abolition
Yesterday the 10th of May 2017 marked the “National Day of Remembrance of the Slave Trade, Slavery and their Abolition” in France.
The 10th of May was chosen with reference to the 10th of May 2001, when a law was unanimously adopted by the Senate that recognizes the Slave trade and slavery as crimes against humanity.
On this day of reflection, François Hollande the outgoing President of the Republic and the newly elected President Emmanuel Macron, yesterday morning paid a visit to the Luxembourg gardens in Paris to honour the memory of slaves and commemorate the abolition of slavery.
