Military exercise in the Gulf of Guinea
As a maritime coastline located on a continent that will boast of a quarter of the global population by 2050, the Gulf of Guinea harbours some essential resources: crude oil, gas, minerals, fishery resources.. However, this wealth of resources also represents a direct or indirect cause of conflicts within the region, exemplified by piracy and local crises.
The French navy therefore constantly patrols the area in its commitment to cooperation and development particularly through operation Corymbe. Almost every quarter, a major exercise is organised in collaboration with the various naval forces of countries bordering on the Gulf of Guinea, in a bid to ensure security on the waters. Ghana, a principal actor in the region, should very soon benefit from the implementation of the CMC zone F (Multinational Coordination Centre – Yaoundé agreement)
