Military mission : Role

The role of the military mission is to promote France’s defence policy, to report and explain Ghana’s defence policy to the relevant French authorities and to develop bilateral military cooperation between the two countries. The Defence Attaché gives concrete substance to the link between France and Ghana in the military sphere.

The Defence Attaché

Representing the French Defence Ministry in the Embassy, the Defence Attaché is accountable to the Chief of the Defence and responsible for liaising with the Ghana military authorities.

Head of the military mission, he coordinates its work and is responsible for:

  • Informing the Ghanaian authorities about French defence policy and armed forces capabilities and equipment
  • Reporting to the French authorities developments in Ghanaian defence policy
  • Promoting Franco-Ghanaian military relations
  • Advising the Ambassador and providing him with an expertise on all defence-related issues
  • Contributing to the promotion of the French defence industry.|

The Liaison Officer

The Liaison Officer assists the Defence Attaché by:

  • Contributing its specialist expertise to the overall political and military analysis, as requested by the Defence Attaché;
  • Contributing to the collection and analysis of information in every defence policy-related sphere;
  • Advising the Defence Attaché on matters concerning their Service or Defence Ministry department;
  • Liaising with the Ghanaian counterparts on behalf of the French Defence and Security authorities.

The Liaison Officer is also in charge of developing a program of French learning in the Ghana Armed Forces (GhAF). In addition, he is a Course Director at the Kofi Annan Peacekeeping Training Center (KAIPTC).
