IWD 2021: The French Embassy in Ghana remains committed to gender equality goals

On Monday morning, the Residence de France in Accra was home to the Glitz Africa She Boss Breakfast; a high-level women-powered forum which was graced by a host of powerful Ghanaian women, including the Second Lady of Ghana and keynote speaker, HE Samira BAWUMIA.

The all-female panel included the likes of Ghana Commodity Exchange CEO Tucci Goka Ivowi, Lawyer and International Elections Consultant Charlotte Osei, and Vodafone Ghana CEO Patricia Obo-Nai to discuss “achieving equal future in a COVID-19 world” in the presence of the French Ambassador to Ghana.

“I am pleased to host the Glitz Africa 2021 She Boss Event at the Residence de France,” Her Excellency Anne Sophie Avé declared.

“It is an opportunity to express France’s commitment to achieve gender equality goals and support Ghanaian initiatives.”

As the world celebrates International Women’s Day on March 8th, the French Embassy in Ghana wishes to underline French President Emmanuel Macron’s main engagement for his mandate: the fight for gender equality. For the French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Yves LE DRIAN, this translates into “feminist diplomacy”.

The French Embassy in Ghana considers that achieving equality between women and men is an essential condition for sustainable development and economic growth. With equality at the heart of our advocacy and at the centre of our cooperation projects, we are pleased to take the opportunity of this women’s day to remind that France will host the Generation Equality Forum in June.

Prior to that, the French Embassy will launch a new project funding program, PISCCA, addressed to Ghanaian civil society organizations dedicated to promoting equality between women and men. All associations working in the field of the economic, social, and political empowerment of women and promoting women’s rights are invited to seize the occasion and submit their projects as soon as possible.

A call for applications will published on the French Embassy’s website. Follow us on all our social media pages to know more and be the first to apply!
