French support to enhance civil society – parliament engagement
The French government maintains its support for initiatives that foster consultative processes and empowerment of civil society organisations in nation building.
On the 16th and 17th November, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) participated in an intensive workshop in Tamale, in order to strengthen their capacity and thus enhance civil society-parliament engagement.
Carried out by the African Centre for Parliamentary Affairs (ACEPA), this training is funded by the French government under its CSOs strengthening programme. The project entitled “Capacity building for CSOS in the Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions of Ghana to engage Parliament”, seeks to strengthen effective citizens’ participation and representation in governance and decision-making processes through the mobilization of NGOs, and serve as a “mouthpiece” for the people before Members of Parliament.
Several training sessions will take place in the Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions and they will be completed by the set-up of a platform for CSOs to interact with MPs in order to exchange ideas on how best to channel the citizens’ voice and concerns through parliament and other national platforms.
