‘France & Ghana: Moving forward together’, President Macron at the Square of Independence
On the 30th of November, 2017, the President of the Republic of France paid a historic visit to Ghana as part of his recent tour in West Africa
France in Ghana: It’s been an eventful year for all of us, in this 60th year of our bilateral relations. Our slogan is ‘France & Ghana: Moving forward together’.
This year saw its best on Thursday, 30th November with the visit of the French president Emmanuel Macron to Accra. This visit was a historical one, as, for the first time, a sitting president of France has visited Ghana.
Together with H.E. Nana Akufo-Addo, President Macron lighted the perpetual flame at the Independence (Black Star) Square, where they were greeted by the Children from different schools.
Then, after a press conference at the Flagstaff house, they visited the Accra based international start-up incubator IMPACT HUB where the President Macron could meet the younger talent in the digital world of Accra.
This busy visit came to an end at the historical and buzzing area of Accra: Jamestown where the President Macron could see Ghana’s youth potential in sports mainly in Football and Boxing : Possibilities of double degrees in sports as well as innovative ways of cooperation in the field of sports were discussed in order to help the Jamestown. There, the French president met with Joe Addo, chairman of ArchiAfrika. Prominent sportsmen like the footballer Abedi Pelé graced the occasion where the President could kick off the match along with him and the children from the neighborhood.
