Commemoration of May 8th 1945
This May 8th, France is commemorating the 72nd anniversary of the Allies victory against Nazi Germany and the end of the Second World War in Europe. Signed twice, the Reich Army capitulation ended a conflict which killed 36 million all over the European continent.
A celebration took place this morning at the base of the Arc de Triomphe, Paris, in the presence of the French Republic President Mr. Francois Hollande, and the newly elected president Mr. Emmanuel Macron. Together they revived the Unknown Soldier flame, symbol of the recognition of France to the fallen soldiers.
