Commemoration of International Day of Women’s Rights in the Volta region
Representatives of the French embassy participated in a host of activities organised by Global women development partners (GLOWDEP) in the Volta region to mark International Women’s day
On Thursday 15th March, 2018, Marion Chapon (Cooperation attaché) and Genevieve Partington (Projects coordinator) of the French Embassy in Ghana honoured an invitation to be part of events organised to mark the International Women’s rights Day in the Central Tongu district of the Volta region.
The occasion, organised by the Global Women Development Promoters association (GLOWDEP) at the Adidome senior high school, brought together the principal, District Chief Executive, directors of the education and health services, as well as over 400 pupils from different schools within the district.
A panel discussion was also organised by the students on the role of parents, pupils and other stakeholders in supporting efforts to promote the rights of women and young girls, particularly with regard to education. The embassy representatives afterwards visited a girls’ model school that is specially set up to address the needs of underprivileged female students and equip them with technical skills in agriculture, traditionally a preserve of males.
