Celebration of the International Day of the Girl Child : “The Power of the Adolescent Girl: Vision for 2030”, with the association Global Development Promoters (GLOWDEP) at Adidome (Volta Region)
On the occasion of the International Day of the Girl Child (11th October), representatives from the Cooperation Department of the French Embassy, Marion CHAPON, the Cooperation attaché and Genevieve Partington, the Projects Coordinator, visited the Adidome Senior High School, in the Central Tongu District.
The year’s theme of the International Day is “The Power of the Adolescent Girl: Vision for 2030” and it aims to highlight and address the needs and challenges girls face, while promoting girl’s empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights.
This event is part of a project implemented by the NGO Global Women Development Promoters (GLOWDEP), for which French Embassy allocated a grant. It aimed at promoting girl child education and women empowerment program in the Central Tongu District and more specifically, to promoting child education towards the reduction in teenage pregnancy and female student retention in schools.
Also present at the launch were the District Chief Executive of Central Tongu District, the Headmaster of the Adidome Senior High school, the Deputy Director of GES among other dignitaries as well as almost 900 students from Adidome and its surroundings. Awareness messages in order to reduce teenage pregnancy and words of encouragement to stay in school were given in the form of a symposium by various development practitioners to the students. In a nutshell, the event was successful.
