COVID-19 : Measures taken by the authorities for foreigners currently in France
Instructions for holders of a French residence permit, a long or short stay visa and a receipt of a renewal request for a residence permit.
Foreign citizens, holders of a French residence permit, a French long stay visa or a “récépissé” for the renewal of a residence permit which is about to expire, and who cannot travel to France due to the interruption of flights, will be granted an automatic extension of their residence permit, long stay visa (validated VLS-TS, VLS-T or VLS valid for 3 months with a mention
“carte de séjour à solliciter”) and will be authorized to go back to France when the situation will be restored.
However, they will have to enter France directly, without transiting through another Schengen state, even if those documents are expired.
This measure does not apply to holders of special residence permits or long stay visas issued to the foreign diplomatic and consular staff.
Foreign citizens holding a short-stay visa about to expire and who cannot return to their country for the following reasons :
Their national authorities are banning admission on their territory of persons coming from France due to sanitary reasons ;
Their country is subject to the same sanitary difficulties ;
Interruption of regular flights to Europe,
will benefit from an extension of their visa or temporary permit (not exceeding three months) upon presentation of supporting documents. They will have to contact the competent authorities (Préfecture) of their place of residence.
