"Beyond the goalpost project" or the empowerment of girls through sport [fr]
On Friday 27 September, the "beyond the goalpost project" led by the DUNK association was inaugurated.
The project aims to empower 80 girls from disadvantaged neighbourhoods in Accra through access to sports and education and to train 20 physical education teachers in new methods of teaching sport in public schools: creation of a safe space for sports practice, provision of tutoring, awareness raising on gender issues and women’s rights.
This ceremony, which took place took place in Dansoman, a working-class neighbourhood in western Accra, in the presence of traditional leaders, volunteers and dozens of children from several schools. was an opportunity to recall that the French Embassy is strongly mobilized to place women’s rights at the heart of its cooperation and development activities and that sport is one of the main drivers of equality between women and men.
Like 13 other Ghanaian NGOs, DUNK was selected from among the 147 organisations that responded to the call for projects. This call focused on 3 themes that are at the heart of Ghana’s development challenges but also France’s priorities:
- Climate change/environment
- Reproductive and sexual health and rights (SRHR)
- Sport/social inclusion
